Semicolon
How to type it
Right pinky. Introduced in Lesson 4: Home row: a and ;.
Common uses
- A semicolon joins two closely related independent clauses that could each stand alone as sentences.
- It also separates items in a list when the items already contain commas.
Less common uses
- In C, Java, and JavaScript, a semicolon ends a statement.
- The Greek question mark looks identical to the semicolon and even has its own Unicode code point.
- Typed sideways with a closing parenthesis, ;) is a winking face.
