How to type it

Common uses

• A question mark ends a direct question.
• Repeated, as in ???, it can show confusion, or stand in for details that are not known yet.

Less common uses

• In a web address, ? begins the query string, as in search?q=typing.
• Many programming languages use ? in a ternary expression: condition ? yes : no.
• Spanish opens a question with an inverted ¿ as well as closing it with ?.
• The interrobang ‽ merges a question mark with an exclamation mark.
