Euro sign
How to type it
Mac: Shift + Option + 2. Windows: Alt + 0128 on the number pad.
Common uses
- The euro sign is the symbol for the euro, the currency of most European Union countries.
- Prices place it before or after the amount depending on the country, as in €5 or 5 €.
Less common uses
- The European Commission unveiled it in 1996, saying it draws on the Greek epsilon, with two bars standing for stability.
- The euro sign is much newer than the dollar and pound signs, so older keyboards and fonts may lack it.
- The euro currency was launched in 1999 as an accounting currency, and euro notes and coins came into circulation in 2002.
